There seems to be no end in sight to the perceived animosity between the Rivers State Police Command and Save Rivers Movement as policemen allegedly opened fire on members of the movement, who converged on Bori, Khana Local Government of the state on Sunday.
This latest incident comes less than eight days after a similar rally billed for the Rivers College of Arts and Science in Obio/Akpor Local Government was aborted by the police, who reportedly acting on orders of the police commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu, dispersed the crowd using tear gas and rubber bullets.
Like a replay of what happened last Sunday, the rally was billed to start by 2pm, but fully armed policemen stormed the venue before the commencement of the programme, as heavy shooting heralded their arrival in yet to be ascertained circumstances.
It was learnt that scores were injured but we could not independently confirm if anyone was killed in the ensuing chaos as of the time of filing this report.
